Mathilde's grandma
My grand-mother’s name is Ginette Bris. When she was teenager she lived in the North of France in a little village called “Vieux Condé” with her parents, she had a little family, they were only 3 in the same house. Her father was in the military then he worked in an insurance company, in his family they were 4 people: his sister, his parents and him. Her mother was a housewife, she lived with her 6 sisters/brothers and her 2 parents. When she was younger she lived the second world war so when she became a teenager and there was the war between Indo-China and the France she was very afraid and it was a very important event in her life.
There were only the radio and the newspapers available in her family and internet didn’t exist, they went to the cinema to get the information because the first part was the news and then the second part was the film. In her family, radio was the most popular mass media because compared to the computer, radio was not expensive. She loved reading, she read over 2 hours a day and one of her favourite book was “Germinal” (Emile Zola), contrary to her, her parents didn’t read books but her mother read one magazine: “today’s woman”. They didn’t have TV but she listened to radio series (“la famille Durator” and “reine d’un jour”) with her parents. For her, the positive aspect of the mass media at this time was the easy access to news with the radio but there were only 2 channels, and it was the negative aspect. The arrival of TV, phone… was a big change in her house, thanks to it the communication is easier with our friends and family. Internet change her life, everything is faster and easier (for booking a trip, a hotel, to be inform…).
Mathilde's mother
My mother names Juliette, she was born in Lille (in the north of France). When she was teenager she lived with her mother in France while her father lived in Madagascar with her little step sister, she also had her 2 grand-parents and her 2 uncles (her father’s brothers) in France so she could saw them. Her mother was an English teacher and her father was biochemistry teacher in university. One of her favourite remember was when she was 15 and she went to USA with her father.
When she was teenager TV, newspaper, radio were available in her family but she didn’t have internet, it didn’t exist yet, so she went to library and did her research with books and dictionary. She spent 1hour a day on mass media, the most popular mass media in her family was the television, but the most of the time she went to her class dance and went out to see her friends. She liked read too, she read over 3 hours a week. She also watched TV, in her family they watched “Apostrophe” (it’s a TV program) and every Sunday night they watched a film with the debate. The positive aspect of mass media in her country was the quick access to the news and the negative aspect was they didn’t have the “free” radio, politics controlled it. Now, with the presence of the computer and internet in her household she can work and does some research at home.
Lucas's grandma
I interviewed my grand-mother, her name’s Claudine. She lived with her 11 brothers and sisters. My grand-mother didn’t have a job and my grand-father was a truck driver at the business of SBTPC on the port at Reunion Island. With my grand-parents I live in Fleurimont in St-Paul. The historical fact is to my grand-mother is the encounter of my grand-parents was impressed because they married very young. When they were young at 16 years old my grandmother met my grandfather. The types of mass media used by my grandparents were newspapers, radio, TV. They used that every day to find out local information but they couldn’t use internet because they don’t have computer and it was very expensive at the time . They read a “ Quotidian». My grandmother can use internet and she likes that . But my grandfather can’t use internet because she don’t understand the technology, he can’t used the phone because it’s very hard for him but my grandmother can because she download facebook.
My grand-parents are very amazing for me. Thanks to them
Check Lay's father
His name is Modou DIEYE.He was born in 1962 in Senegal and he’s 55 years old. He grew up at Thies, a town at the North of the country. There were 10 people living in the same house. His father was a soldier,
In my dad’s house there was not TV but there were newspapers. There was not Internet, not computer, and maybe the radio. But he spent a lot of time reading books that he found in the public library in Thies. His favorite books were photo novels and crime novels. His favorite program was "Jeune Afrique", a weekly generalist magazine that talks about Africa.
He also thinks that today's young people are lucky to have been born in the new technology era , and that this did not exist at the time when he was our age but they still knew how to entertain themselves and learn despite everything. The advantages for him are the fact that the information has never been so accessible. Learning about the facts of the planet has become very simple and fast, because newspapers have gone from paper to digital. , he also thinks that there are negative aspects, such as the fact that young people are too hooked to devices (computer, phone) and this leads to a lack of fluency in the French language, as if electronic devices had replaced books ...

Reading was quite popular and Internet was a new thing so people didn’t realy know it and it was hard to get it.
It was very expensive to buy a TV or a radio because spending power was 3 times less important than now.
